Bhubaneswar Bulk Drinking Water Supply Project

  1. Government of Odisha has undertaken the bulk drinking water supply project to meet the drinking water needs of city’s industries, municipalities abutting the capital and IIT -  Bhubaneswar.
  2. Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Ltd.,(MEIL) has taken up this project under public-private partnership (DBFOT)model.
  3. Having successfully executed this project, Megha has started supplying safe drinking water since 15th December 2017.
  4. MEIL has also taken up the responsibility of maintenance of the project for the next 25 years.

  • As part of this project MEIL has built two Water Treatment Plants (WTP) with a capacity of 69 & 83 MLD each. An in take well, a pump house, a Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) system with 11 MLD capacity, 4 Ground Level Reservoirs that forms part of the project have been built on time.
  • To ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply, seven reservoirs ranging from 225 to 2250 kilo litres capacity were built to store sufficient water to cater the needs of people and industry.
  • Water drawn from river Mahanadi will be thoroughly filtered and purified through a state-of-art purification system before being supplied to users.
  • MEIL, for this project, has laid a pipeline for 85.62 km.Out of the total piped drinking water supply system 22.39 km has a 1000 mm diameter pipeline, 250 to 1200 diameter pipeline for 40.73 km and MS/DI pipeline for 22.50 km have been laid.
  • Under this project Infrastructure Development Corporation of Odisha Ltd.,(IDCO),institutes like IIT Bhubaneswar, NISER and the adjoining Municipalities of Khurda and Jatni have been getting assured drinking water supply.
  • The Project also caters to the drinking water needs of Sea Food Park, INFOCITY –II, Khurda Industrial Estate which falls under the purview of IDCO.
